Why we sit on monobloc chairs — and why we did not buy a single one of them new.
Terrace. Camping. Garden. Snack bar. Beach. Balcony. 🪑
Somewhere in the world, almost everyone has sat on a monobloc chair at least once.
When we learned that the monobloc is the best-selling piece of furniture in the world, and pizza the best-selling food in the world, one thing was immediately obvious:

Plenty of people consider it the most ordinary chair there is.
Which is precisely why we love it. ❤️
When we furnished SO Pizza in Basel, we deliberately did not want a designer chair. We wanted a chair everyone knows. A chair for everyone.
But buying new plastic chairs felt wrong to us.
All across Switzerland. 🇨🇭
We collected monobloc chairs from all over the country and bought them off their owners. Every single one already had a first life behind it.
Some date back to the 1980s and are still astonishingly sturdy. Others are considerably younger. No two are exactly alike.
Small differences in shape, surface or shade tell a story of their own.
Now they get a second life with us. ♻️
That fits our philosophy. We try to do the simple things as well as we possibly can.
Pizza does not have to be a luxury dish to be great. And a chair does not have to be a design classic to be comfortable.
At SO Pizza everyone eats the same pizza, shares the same salad and sits on the same chair.
Nobody is more important than anybody else. 🍕🥗🪑
Maybe that is exactly why the monobloc is the right chair for us.
